The Gabo Foundation and CAF -development bank of Latin America and the Caribbean-, with the support of the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI), present this compilation of stories written by girls and boys between the ages of 10 and 13, selected as winners of the second edition of the “Macondo sí tiene quien le escriba” contest.

About the awards
The first edition of the short story contest ‘Macondo Does Have Someone to Write About It’ was launched in 2023, inviting children to write about heroes and heroines who have contributed to forging the identity of Ibero-America and the Caribbean. In its second edition, the contest proposed reflecting on “our identity and pride in who we are,” with the aim of highlighting, making visible and celebrating the elements that make the region unique, including its cultural roots, traditions, languages and the richness of its peoples.
Results of the second edition
After a careful evaluation process, the winning stories were selected and their authors lived a unique experience in the Colombian Caribbean, visiting the scenarios that inspired the work and life of Gabriel García Márquez. Find out all the details about the tour here.

The short story contest for girls and boys from 10 to 13 years old, ‘Macondo Does Have Someone to Write About It’, is an initiative of the Gabo Foundation and CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean -, with the support of the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI). Its objective is to promote reading and writing as tools to strengthen critical thinking and awaken vocations from childhood.
